The Golden Snitch
Cynthia picked up a fruit she’d never seen before. When she peeled back the husk, it reminded her of a Golden Snitch, from Harry Potter; that’s it, she had to create a cocktail. She made the physalis into a Shrub/syrup, added some fresh coriander, (cilantro for our American followers), mixed it with our gin and some Triple Sec. Usually her cocktail ideas need a few tweaks to get the balance right, but this was fantastic right out of the gate. Anyone for Quidditch?
50 ml Sir Robin of Locksley® Gin
15 ml Curaçao Triple Sec – Edmond Briottet
15 ml Physalis Shrub
1 Handful of Coriander (Cilantro) (Stems and leaves)
Muddle the Coriander with the shrub in the bottom of a cocktail shaker, add SRoL Gin, and Triple Sec. Shake well with ice, double strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with fresh Physalis with husk pulled back to look like a snitch.
To make Physalis shrub: Husk and chop the fruit and put into a bowl with an equal (in volume) amount of sugar. Let sit over night till sugar is dissolved and it’s almost all liquid, strain solids out and add a splash of white wine vinegar to balance out the sweetness.
